Here we are, almost done with October!
This is my favorite time of the year. It gets a little colder, the kids are excited about the holidays. I cannot lie, I may love the holidays more than the children do. I love all of the arts and crafts the holidays bring, even math is more fun when you use pumpkins and leaves. I am sad we had to cancel our pumpkin patch trip but we do have the Halloween Parade and Party to look forward to. I will be working on progress reports for the next couple of weeks, you will get them in early November. If your child is very new, you may not receive a report, as there is not much to report on! But I will send you a note documenting your child's progress. This week we worked on all of your children's goals as well as the requirements for Preschools in California. We embed them into our daily activities, so really the children just think they are playing and doing fun table jobs. I am focusing a lot on guided play. During guided play the teachers are able to work closely with the children and help them use appropriate language in different situations. We are encouraging them to ask friends to play, request items from friends, interact in a positive way, using manners, allowing other people to participate in games, conflict resolution, using words instead of bodies and so much more. "Sharing is caring" is often heard in preschools, we are trying to get the children to share because they want to, not because they have to. How does someone feel when they have nothing and you have 5 blocks? How would your friend feel if you gave them some of your blocks? You could then play together! It is amazing to see their minds working and eventually hand over the toys with a smile! Play often just looks like... play! But your children are learning many meaningful lessons that will help throughout their lives. Doesn't our world need a little more sharing? I hope you all have a wonderful weekend with your families, there are many events going on this weekend. If you ever have something exciting going on, I would love to hear about it! It is a great way to get your kids talking at school! Hi families,
This week felt soooo long because we did so much fun stuff! I cannot believe how much we do in such a short amount of time. We have been really working on hard on being a good friend in class. The children are leaning how to communicate to express their wants. Like if they want something that someone else has, we use our words instead of grabbing, or screaming. Like, "Can I have a turn" or "I want that toy" and in response someone may say, "I am using it, you can have it when I am done" or "This is not available right now". Giving the children another way to get what they want will help them meet their needs in a safe and positive way. Sometimes in life you have to wait, it can be so hard! With new friend's in the class we have been talking a lot about friendship, caring for one another and being kind. We learned about the letter Ii and Inny Inchworm. This led to using a ruler and measuring inchworms we made with play dough. we had centers with Miss C for speech and Miss C for OT, we worked on our fine motor skills and made some messy ice cream cones and shakers (sorry about those, a little noisy). The children are sitting for longer periods of time during activities. Circle time is getting longer too with more children to participate in calendar, our number box, name recognition, weather and all of the interesting conversations that come up. We planted in our garden, carrots! Hopefully they will survive since we have had to remain inside for most of the week and the children have not had a chance to water them. What was the best part of the week? Pumpkins! We made our own pumpkin patch and picked a pumpkin! Next week we will be jumping into the letter Jj and jack-o-lanterns AND more fun fall activities. We will be continually working on your child's goals and noting your child's progress for reports coming out in November. If you have any questions please let me know. Important Notes: *October 31st Halloween Parade @ 11:45, preschool class party to follow (adjusted schedule). Come in costume. Parents are welcome! We have an adjusted schedule. Our school day will be from 10:25-1:25. *Please join us on Facebook if you haven't yet! Let me know if you need to be invited again. *We will have another friend coming Monday!!! Happy Thursday! I hope everyone has had a wonderful week. It was really fun meeting our new friend Jeanna this week and next week we have two more friends starting school. We talked about the letter Hh, house, hat, horse and happy! Next week will talk about the letter Ii and then we will dive into Fall activities for a couple of weeks.
If you are going to the Pumpkin Patch on Friday please let me know. All of the children who attend school on the 12th will get their pictures taken, I will send home order forms if you would like to order pictures. The Halloween parade on the 31st changed from 11:30 to 11:45. The students walk around the basketball courts in a big circle while the different grades watch and there is a High School band playing music. After the parade we will be joining TK for a Halloween party. Drop off is at 10:25 and pick up is at 1:25. You are of course welcome to come to the parade and party! Have a wonderful weekend, Megan Bass What a wonderful week. It is such a joy to spend my days with your children, they are all really amazing people! Today we read the book, The Three Billy Goats Gruff. The kids enjoyed it so much that we acted out the story, please ask them to retell the story to you. We also acted out Good Night Gorilla with the animals from the story. The kiddos brought home a little book with some of the characters. We also talked about goldfish and giraffes... because it was G week! I kept a few of the kids projects at school to decorate our walls, they are all so beautiful I want the class to enjoy them for a bit. October will be packed with fun activities. I am offering a time for conferences on Oct 10th and 12th (20 minutes), 8:30, 9:00, 9:30, 10:00, or 10:30 OR Oct 9th-12th at 3:20. This is an optional conference to touch base and answer any questions or concerns you may have so far this year. If you cannot come in but would like an update, I am happy to email you with an update on your child's progress however everyone will receive a more formal progress report in November. Just email me a time/day that works for you if you are interested. Have a wonderful weekend!

Our day will be from 10:25-1:25 Hello families, the weeks are just flying by! This week we focused on the letter F for Fish, Frogs, Fox, Feet and Feelings. We do a couple of projects every day to help with fine motor skills, scissor cutting (circle, straight lines), paper tearing, gluing, paintbrush holding, pencil grip and so on. Along with identifying alphabet letters and numbers we will be adding in writing of numbers and letters for those who are developmentally ready. Preschool is the best place to get messy so this week we played with play dough, corn starch goop, finger paint, colored salt, watercolor, baking soda and vinegar fizz, just to name the ones that I remember. We have spent a lot of time outside, the weather has been beautiful! We usually go out with our buddies. Not only do a few of our 5th grade buddies come every day to play but today we also went into our 5th grade buddies classroom and they read to us. It is fun for the preschoolers to see our buddies in passing and they say hello or give a high five. Have I told you lately how awesome your kids are? They are!
Have a great weekend, Megan Dates to remember: *Today: Last day to order books online through Scholastic. *October 6th No School-Teacher Work Day *October 12th Picture Day (MWF children can come at 11:45 on the 12th if you would like their photo taken). *October 31st Halloween Parade @ 11:30, class party to follow. Due to the timing of the parade, we have an adjusted schedule. Our day will be from 10:25-1:25 *November 1st No School-Staff Development Day Hi families,
We had a fast week focusing on the letter Ee. We have been spending a lot of time working on cutting skills, discussing and drawing shapes and of course every day we are getting super messy. Playing board games has helped the children take turns, count, add and sit patiently. We had so much fun building a life sized nest that we could play in and smaller ones too (which I have kept in the room for decoration). We dissolved dinosaur eggs, read a lot of egg and elephant books and spent some time on our new playground. Today they made elephant puppets with trunks as long as their bodies... super long! We are continuing to discover patterns, count and learn our ABC's. I am extremely passionate about compassionate communication and teaching children how to resolve conflicts positively. My goal in any classroom is to help the children learn how to play and work cooperatively. This requires the children to stop and take a moment to reflect on their behavior when the need arises. I want all of the children to feel safe and respected in the classroom and with their friends. Even the smallest issues are addressed in a calm and respectful way where all of children can address their concerns and needs. Preschool is such a wonderful age to learn about how to have empathy for others and show compassion for others. I hope you have a wonderful weekend with your family, Megan Bass What a wonderful week focusing on the letter D. Ducks, Dinosaurs and Deer were fused into our everyday learning in fun and exciting ways. We talked about forest critters and where they live, up high, on the ground or in the middle in the trees. Our Kindergarten friends came in for a play date, we made a dinosaur using different shapes, we made sand dough to make dinosaur fossils and we have been watching the playground go up (it is nearly done).
You will be receiving a Scholastic book order form in your Friday folder, when the books arrive I will be putting them in your child's backpack discretely so don't feel like your child will be left out if they don't get something (it is monthly). We will be having picture day on October 12th. If your child comes to school MWF you can pop over 9-12 to get your child's photo taken or if you are in school Tuesday, we will be going over after drop off. Forms will be coming home soon. We will also be going to the Pumpkin Patch in October! Save the date for October 13th 9-11am, parents drive and join in on the fun. There will be no class at school that day (more info coming). I will post all of our events coming up on our class website. As usual, please email me with any questions or concerns and I will do the same! I have decided to email our weekly newsletter but if you prefer a hard copy let me know and I will print one out for you. I am having so much fun learning more about your children. Have a wonderful weekend, Megan Who loves preschool? We love preschool!
I hope you are hearing all about the fun activities we have been working on this week. Pete the Cat, The Mouse and the Cookie, CARS, and so many other C word themed projects were happening in class all week long. We have been doing a lot of cutting, gluing, painting, talking about colors, numbers, weather and the coolest event of the week... hanging out with the Kindergarteners! We will be going to their room on Tuesdays and they will come visit us on Thursdays. We have some events you may want to take note of... Pumpkin Patch on October 13th at 9am (parents drive their own child). We will not have the usual scheduled class at 11:45, we will only have our morning pumpkin patch adventure with the am class. Also, we will be in a parade at school for Halloween, so have your child come dressed in their costumes. It will be during our usual class time. I will let you know what time so you can come if you would like. We do not have school on Monday! We will have a short week learning about the letter D. Dogs, Dinosaurs, Deer, Ducks, so many fun things to do every week. And that is why... WE LOVE PRESCHOOL! Have a wonderful weekend, stay cool! One week down and many more to go. We have been working on patterns, colors, numbers, letters, sharing, caring, taking turns, becoming friends, talking about the weather, asking interesting questions, fine motor, large motor and so much more. Next week we will be continuing on with a focus on the letter Bb. What does that mean... BEARS, BABIES, BUGS, BALLS, BALLOONS and other fun B activities. We will also be welcoming our Speech and OT teacher into the class. So much fun!
Wow! I feel so lucky to be spending my afternoons with such wonderful children. Thanks parents for bringing them to our school! We will be focusing on the letter A all week and you guessed it... onto the letter B next week.
